I suppose,
When it comes down to it,
We’re all just as inept as the next person.
None of us have it figured out.
If you look at everyone around you,
We’re all just winging it.
The vast majority of us don’t know what we’re doing.
We’re all trying to be mature, but none of us really knows what that means.
No one is trying to play games with people.
There’s no great secret to meeting someone,
No trick to hooking up.
There’s just you, and those around you.
So here’s what I think.
Chose those around you wisely.
You might be into some of them,
You might not.
But those select few people that you choose to associate with,
They may define you better than you can yourself.
For better or worse.
It might take time to figure out who those people are,
And you might lose some of them along the way.
But the ones who stick around,
The ones who stick around, those are the select few,
They know the chinks in your armour,
The know what gets to you, and what empowers you.
And it’s not always your call who they are.
It seems contradictory.
But that’s how I see it.
And it’s important to cherish those people around you.
Because, while you’ll never be truly alone,
It’s those people who will truly define who you are.
So keep good company.
